Keeping Our Doors Open – A message to the Trentham Community

The TNC is not immune to the financial challenges that so many businesses and community service organisations are facing everywhere. We are now required to make difficult but necessary changes to ensure our Neighbourhood Centre remains open, financially sustainable and able to continue providing valued services, connection and support to our community into the future.

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria’s recent - 'Keep-our-doors-open-campaign' highlights the pressures facing the sector, including rising operating costs, increasing demand for community support and funding that has not kept pace with the true cost of delivering services.

To continue operating responsibly, we need to align our staffing and operations within the State Government’s (DFFH) funding model and our current financial reality. This requires a significant restructuring of our staffing model.

Our staff have played an enormous role in building the relationships, programs and culture of your Neighbourhood Centre. We are incredibly grateful for the commitment and contribution of Richard and Rachel who in recent years have helped make our Neighbourhood Centre the welcoming place it is today.

The decisions we are making are very difficult, but our goal is clear: we must keep our doors open and continue providing much needed community services to Trentham and surrounds.

The Committee is now recruiting for a new position, that will replace the current two roles, and support the Centre over the next 12 months. The position description can be provided to by sending an email to the president@trenthamnc.org.au.

We are also seeking expressions of interest from community members who would like to volunteer and support reception duties at the Centre for a few hours each week and contribute to how the Centre operates and meets our community needs. If you are interested in helping the TNC to maintain its valuable presence in our community, or if you would like some further information on what would be involved, please email your details to the president@trenthamnc.org.au.
